Irked by the poor state of roads in Oba, Idemili South local government area, Anambra state, a hotelier, Chief Jerry Nwabia has embarked on the construction of a two-kilometre road project estimated to cost
Fielding questions from newsmen on the project, Nwabia stated that he intended the project to benefit to both rich and poor.
“Years ago, I registered Jerry Nwabia Road, doing palliative work on it without assistance from anybody. Two years ago, it got worse and, so, I decided to commence permanent work on it, from January this year. By the grace of God, I will complete the project within this first quarter. Nobody wants to work on the road. We want to assist Governor Willie Obiano in the infrastructural development of this state.”
“The road stretches from Old Onitsha/Oba/Nnewi road to the Onitsha/Oba/Nnewi new road, almost a 2klm road with deep drainages on both sides to contain the volume of heavy flood that passes through the road.”
On how he is embarking on such gigantic project alone, he revealed that he approached “those who have big hotels around here to come to the rescue but I don’t rely on them and by the grace of God the project will be completed within this first quarter of the year, and I will go to Awka for reimbursement.”
