Hoodlums rampage: Tension as man found dead in Benin neighbourhood

The corpse of an unidentified middle age man was, on Monday morning found at Ibiwe Street within the popular King Square area of Benin City, the Edo state capital.
The victim was suspectedly attacked and killed by hoodlums on Sunday night, as the body was seen covered with blood from the stomach to the waist, indicating he was either stabbed or shot.
However, a girl among the crowd that gathered wondering what could had led to the killing, said the corpse is that of her friend’s father.
According to her, her friend informed her this morning that her father did not return home last night and they are looking for him.
Residents of the ancient city of Benin heaved a sigh a of relief when a reported truce by heads of cult groups was said to be convened to end the killings occasioned by supremacy battle between rival cult groups. The decision of the truce came after over 40 persons had been killed by the two major cult groups- Eiye and Aye as they engage in a supremacy battle, with a third group, Vikings joining the fray.
The Police spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor when contacted on phone said he was on the highway driving and could not respond.
