A young businessman, identified as Umoke Solomon, has been reportedly abducted by unidentified gunmen in the Ezzagu community, Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi state.
According to a source, the South Africa-based Solomon was allegedly kidnapped at about 11 pm on Saturday, January 30.
He, according to the source, returned home last month. He was attacked together with his two brothers in his RAV4 Jeep.
It was gathered that the hoodlums also attacked another group of travellers on the same road, robbing them after shooting their vehicle and injuring many.
One of the victims, said to be named Emmanuel Nwite, expressed shock over the attack.
He said, “We were coming down from Onitsha for a function in our village when the armed men attacked us from the nearby bush shooting directly at our car. It was by the grace of God that I and my brothers in the car survived to escape with injuries.
Orient Daily learned that seriously injured victims were rushed to University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu/Ituku Ozalla for treatment.
Contacted, the police public relations officer Ebonyi state command, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the report.
She said the hoodlums were demanding 10-million-naira ransom but that the police intelligence team was on it, expressing confidence that, in no distant time, the victim would be rescued unhurt, adding that “Efforts are on to track down the hoodlums and rescue the victim.”
