Chairman of Orient Group of companies, Mr. Godwin Chukwunaenye Ezeemo on Tuesday returned his nomination and expression of interest forms to the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] secretariat with a plea to the leadership of the party to create a level playing ground for all aspirants to the governorship position in Anambra State.

Ezeemo, also reaffirmed his resolve to replicate in Anambra the developmental strides he saw in the United Kingdom (UK) if given the opportunity to govern Anambra state.

Speaking about his inspiration to contest, Mr. Ezeemo said: “I’ve been based in the UK for 20 years and I had the opportunity to see how everything things work in the United Kingdom, the First World. Then it has always bordered me why our own is not like their own. This is the question that has bordered me for so long. It was based on this that I eventually made up my mind that I will work towards being a governor so that I can replicate what I saw in the United Kingdom back in Anambra State. That’s the purpose, the reason I’m running for governor.

Furthermore, he reiterated: “It’s not for me to go and make a name, I’ve already made a name as a businessman. I’m a successful businessman.

“When I started, I have to come back to Anambra state – that is why since 2012 I have been living in Anambra so that I will have the feel of how the populace how; the citizenry are suffering then I will now know, fashion out the very best way to solve our problem.

He adds:  “I’ve done this in 2013 and participated in the debate, I did in 2017 and also participated in the debate.   I’m a household name in Anambra State. In the nooks and crannies of Anambra state, mention of Godwin Ezeemo is enough, is a ticket for you to go anywhere you want to go”

Ezeemo also warned against any attempt to support or back any specific aspirant pointing out that the PDP stands to gain more by ensuring that the process of selecting a governorship candidate was transparent, free of rancor and political intrigues. He stated that with a level playing ground, he was optimistic of winning the primary election scheduled to hold in Awka on June 26, 2021.

The business man took time to outline his programmes and vision for Anambra State and stated that the desire to seek the governorship of the state was not borne out of a need to enrich himself but to serve the state and usher in badly needed development and human capital growth.

He promised that if given the opportunity to govern Anambra, his administration will carry the youths and women along and will not impose inhuman laws on the people.

Ezeemo described the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance as a dying party and traced his contributions to the effort to revive the once rickety Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] which had been crippled by leadership crisis before he joined the party.

National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Colonel Austin Akabundu [Retired] who received the nomination and expression of interest forms assured the aspirant in a remark that the party will be fair, just and neutral in its dealings with contestants.

“We wish to assure all the aspirants that the primary election will be transparent, we will provide equal playing field and I want to assure that we are not supporting any aspirant. You have nothing to worry about as we will treat all the aspirants equally since we do not have anyone that we are favouring,” he said.

The entrance of the aspirant to the PDP secretariat was marked by colourful drum beats provided by the Ogene Cultural Group as Mr. Ezeemo was led in a procession by party supporters into the premises at exactly 3.30pm and was received by party officials and ushered into the party conference hall where the handover ceremony took place.
