Urhobo leaders petition Buhari over Uwheru killings in Delta

The leadership of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) worldwide has petitioned President Mohammadu Buhari over the recent killings of farmers in Uwheru community by suspected herdsmen over sharp disagreement in the destruction of their farm crops worth millions of Naira.
The group, in a statement endorsed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Abel Oshevire, a copy to journalists in Asaba, on Tuesday, stated that the group received with shock the report of attacks and killings by herdsmen in Agadama town and other villages in Uwheru community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state, where over eight persons were brutality murdered and many others displaced from their ancestral lands.
The statement further averred that the group was particularly worried that men on military uniforms supported the herdsmen, who shot sporadically, urging President Buhari and the military authorities to investigate this allegation with a view to bringing the security agents and herdsmen involved in this dastardly killings to book, adding.
The group said that other Uwheru communities like Oreba, Owarovwo, Ophororo, Ohoror, Urede among others, were constantly faced with the attacks from the herdsmen, who openly boast that they would take over the communities unchallenged, and have since been witnessing mass exodus of people.
Meanwhile, security agents attached to Ughelli Area Command have averted bloodbath in two Secondary Schools in Ughelli Metropolis as the timely arrival of the police and other security outfit saved the day as it could have resulted in bloodbath between Oharisi and Ughelli Mixed Secondary Schools.
According to the principal of Ughelli Mixed Secondary School, Mr Thomas Sowah, “we have been experiencing trouble coming from a particular school, Oharisi Secondary School, since Wednesday, last week, as they have been coming to attack the students.
