The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday ordered local government chairmen in the state to ensure that all outstanding deductions to relevant agencies were remitted without delay

The order was part of the recommendations reached following a report presented at the Tuesday’s plenary by the House Committee on Public Accounts as presented by its Chairman, Mr Anthony Elekeowuri as the report was centred on the review of the report of the Auditor General (Local Government) in the account of the 25 local governments of the state for the years ended December 2017 and 2018

The House Committee’s report, which was unanimously adopted by the Lawmakers at the Tuesday’s sitting that was presided over by the Speaker, Mr Sherriff Oborevwore also ordered the various Local Government Chairmen to stop the trend of non-remittances of deductions on behalf of third party

In the report, the House also enjoined all the local governments to ensure proper maintenance of cash books just as they instructed that it must be kept on daily basis adding that the local governments must ensure the timely sweeping of all internally generated revenue ( IGR) to the Consolidated Revenue funds..While admitting that the 2017,2018 reports of the Auditor General (Local Government) were complete as it gave a true and fair view of the operations in the local governments, the lawmakers however said they observed the existence of over bloated and long standing unretired advance in the accounts of all the 25 local governments. Meanwhile, the Chairman, Bureau for State Pension, Mr Cyril Agbele has assured the general public particularly Deltans that the Bureau would not rest on its oasis to expedite action on pension matters. Agbele who spoke to Journalists in Asaba said that there had been wide spread allegations of extortion of retirees and their relatives to facilitate payment of their entitlement but emphasized that such sharp practices if any would be checked
