IYC to consolidate first year gains

The spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, has vowed to consolidate on the gains of his first year as spokesman of the IYC, as he marked one year in office, on Monday.
Speaking at an event he put together to celebrate the day, Ekerefe assured that the second year of their administration, led by the President of Council, Comrade Timothy Igbifa, would experience more of empowerment programmes for youths of the Ijaw nation.
Ekerefe acknowledged that while the past year was challenging, several lessons were dutifully learnt, as he expressed optimism that the surmounted challenges were able to open new paths of opportunities for the IYC.
The IYC National spokesman disclosed that in marking his one year in office, he was able to, among other things, initiate an ICT training centre for willing Ijaw youths to be trained and said the project was borne out of his desire to give back to the society.
Earlier, president of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Worldwide, Professor Benjamin Okaba, who graced the occasion in person, commended Comrade Ekerefe for his good account of stewardship and also his desire to advance the cause of others.
Commissioning the ICT centre, Okaba urged other youth leaders to jettison selfishness and borrow a leaf from Ekerefe and be good ambassadors of the Ijaw Youth Council, whom posterity could remember tomorrow.
Ekerefe also used the medium to pass a vote of confidence on the INC leadership of Professor Benjamin Okaba for his timely intervention and peaceful resolutions of the issues that rocked the IYC recently.
