Delta govt, NEWMAP in massive rural community development

A massive rural communities’ development through the world Bank Assisted Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) in partnership with the Delta State Government was on Wednesday applauded by coordinator, NEWMA, Mr Isaac Ufiofio who spoke to journalists in Asaba.
Ufiofio while expressing happiness that the Delta State Government had over the years shown concern towards the provision of infrastructural development to various communities, disclosed that the success stories of the projects in the past five years of intervention in the state, was the encouragement and support by the state government adding that the gully reclamation projects in Midoma/Iwerebor Owanta in Ika North East, Obomkpa and Ukwu Nzu in Aniocha North local government areas, Which were various degrees of devastation, were being reclaimed for the restoration of accessible roads and socio economic lives in the areas.
According to him, the civil works of the projects were simultaneously ongoing alongside the payment of compensation to projects affected persons (PAPs) being resettlement action plan (RAP) adding that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration had met its obligations to the projects to the payment of N750million counterpart funding to improve the livelihoods of persons directly affected by erosion through economic relief packages
With the statistics, Ufiofio noted that over 500PAPs that had been compensated on both structures and crops in Midoma Iwerebor Owanta Obomkpa and Ukwu Nzu erosion communities, were already erecting better structures (buildings) from the source of the empowerment packages received, disclosing that Delta State NEWMAP made provision as regards the climate change for the installation of 20,000 liters storage boreholes in Ubulu Uku, 16,litres for Ukwu Nzu and 16 litres for Obomkpa with about 15KVA solar powered capacity each and also functioning as sources of irrigation for the Obomkpa and Ukwu Nzu All Dry season Demonstration Farm Scheme. The NEWMAP boss averred that the farming scheme received a boost through the train the trainers programme, as over 1,000 farmers were trained to equipped them with the modern techniques to boost their farms produce adding that apart from giving technical training to the farmers to improve their farms, yields and livelihoods throughout the year, Delta NEWMAP, distributed more than 500 bundles of cassava stems of pro vita min A, maize , Cocoa , oranges, pears, and other varieties of seedlings to the farmers to improve their livelihoods, generate income and reduce poverty in the community.
The project coordinator said that, in addition to the borehole installations, the project also made provision and installation renewable energy in primary healthcare centres in Ubulu Uku in Aniocha South local government area, Owanta in Ika North East and Jesse in Ethiope West local government areas for better lives in health care centres.
