Delta council boss urges FG to construct canals in Ughelli
By Nosa Akenzua, Asaba
Following perennial flooding of communities in Ughelli South local government area of Delta state, a former vice chairman of the local government council, Chief Eunice Okoh, has called on the federal government to construct canals in flood-prone communities.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain made the call in an interaction with our correspondent while reacting to the warning of Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on impending flooding in flood-prone areas in Nigeria.
Okoh, who said most communities in the local government were riverine, noted that construction of drainages and canals would go a long way in solving the perennial problems. She recalled that flooding had caused a lot of damage of goods, property, ecology and lives.
While advising the people of the affected areas to yield to the warning of NEMA, she lauded the Delta state government over its enlightenment campaign on the issue.
