Five police officers were reportedly killed and seven police stations destroyed in Ebonyi State by hoodlums during the #Endsars protest last month.
This was revealed on Friday during the visit of the Panel of Inquiry set up by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu.
Correspondent reports that the team led by DCP Patrick Atayero were in Ebonyi to undertake on-the-spot assessment of the losses suffered by the Nigeria Police Force during the #Endsars Protests across the country which Ebonyi State was not left behind.
DCP Patrick Atayero in his remarks expressed displeasure on the high level of attack on the police officers by the hoodlums and encouraged the officers of the command not to be deterred in discharging their duties as result of the unwanted attack.
He said that the Inspector-General of Police is making adequate plan to compensate the affected Police Officers.
The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Command, CP Phillip Sule Maku in his remarks applauded the IGP for his tireless effort to rekindle the morale of Officer’s and Men of the Force after the unjustifiable incident in #Endsars protest disguise.
The committee visited affected Police formations where Police facilities were destroyed at Onu Ebonyi, “A” Division, Central Police Station, “B” Division, Kpirikpiri, “C” Division, Ekumenyi and also visited victims/families of the slain officers.
They further visited Ohaozara Divisional Headquarters/Barack, Ikwo Division, Okposi Police outpost and the Newly built Okposi Divisional Headquarters, yet to be Commissioned but was set ablaze by the hoodlums.
The team also took a tour to Ishiagu Medical center and Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (A-E FETHA) where some of the victims who are still alive are receiving treatment.
The Constitution of the Committee is aimed at capturing the Pictorial damages done to Police Infrastructure/Personnel, to undertake visits to the families of the deceased Police Officers/those injured and advise for the requisite supports for such families, Proffer suggestions on possible interventions towards reconstruction, re-equipment of the vandalized Police Assets.
They were also to investigate and identify the remote causes of the attack on Police Facilities/Personnel and bring up suggestions on how to avert future reoccurrence
