NB Plc is our strategic partner – Abia Govt
Yolamchi Ukaga, Aba
The Abia state government has described Nigerian Breweries Plc, a frontline brewing firm in Nigeria, as a strategic partner in the economic development of the state.
Barr. Chris Ezem, secretary to Abia state government, made this assertion, while receiving five units of 16’’X 8’’and 53’’ deep waste bins donated to the State’s Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) by NB Plc.
He noted that keeping Abia clean was one of the major focuses of government, and that that was why the state created ASEPA, which is strongly supported by every government in the state.
To drive home the no-waste policy in Abia, Ezem explained that the government, early this (2021) year, created more sanitation zones in the state in order to create efficiency in waste management in various local government areas.
Consequently, the Abia SSG, stated that the state now has ASEPA zones extended to Ohafia, Ukwa East, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa North, Umuahia North, Umuahia South and would continue to create more zones and ensure that it takes the drive to keep every nook and cranny of Abia clean.
According to him, “In this drive, we have found a strategic partner in NB Plc and that is why we are here today. They are our strategic partners in the development of Abia.
“They have shown faithfulness, they have shown great partnership, the activities of NB Plc and its contribution to our development in terms of our internally generated revenue (IGR) and corporate social responsibility cannot be over emphasized.
“That demonstration of commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR), is what we are doing today”, he stated.
He commended NB Plc for maintaining a clean environment. “We are proud of your environment. We know that this is one company that will never go lower than the conventional standard.”
Ezem also used the opportunity to thank the management of NB Plc for its contribution in the fight against coronavirus pandemic.
In his words, “NB Plc, was one of the very faithful corporate bodies that showed concern in cash and kind in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
“That show of corporate responsibility will remain indelible in our records, because at any point in time history is reviewed, COVID-19 will always future, because it was a watershed globally and what you did at that point and what you have continued to do, will go a long way in the annals of history to show that NB Plc has been one of our great partners in the development of Abia state.
“And so, today, I join hands with staff of ASEPA and Abia state government to say ‘thank you’ for his gesture.
“And I believe that going forward; you will continue to do more, to demonstrate your commitment to CSR. And I want to believe that this should not be the last.
And, as government, Ezem promised that Abia would continue to provide the enabling environment and conducive atmosphere for NB Plc and other businesses, to continue to thrive in the state.
Abbey Ajayi, brewery manager, Aba plant of NB Plc, while presenting the receptacles to the Abia state government, acknowledged that protecting the environment was a top priority on the agenda of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, which informed the commitment of NB Plc to ensuring that the state succeeded in maintaining a green and clean environment.
He stressed that the commitment was not only evident in donations like this, but also in the way the company’s business had prioritised sustainability in its operations.
He stated that NB Plc would remain committed (through its Brew a Better World Sustainability agenda) to supporting the state government, by investing in well-organised waste disposal and recycling activities, functional wastewater treatment plants, as well as responsible water resource management.
