FOMWAN Advocates Want 40% Of Constituency Project Funds For Water
The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN) on Monday asked that at least 40 percent of constituency project funds be allocated for water provision, especially in rural communities.
FOMWAN National Amirah, Hajiya Halima Jibril, made the call in Abuja at a press conference to mark this year’s World Water Day.
“We advocate that at least 40 percent of constituency funds be allocated to the provision of water giving priority to rural communities. Women constitute 49 percent of the Nigerian population.
“We urge women to avail themselves of being part of the dialogue on ward development projects to determine what the priorities are and ensure that such projects are gender-sensitive and are projects that can alleviate the suffering of women,” she said.
