Ogun state police command has arrested five suspected members of a dreaded cult group while taking a corpse back to the family of their attackers on a revenge mission in Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state.
The suspects, Babatunde Shittu, 25, Ayobami Morenikeji 15, Fidelis John 23, Abdullah Adegbenro 17 and Oyeyemi Bakare 20 were arrested on Monday, 14, of December following a distress call received at Sango area command headquarters.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement in Abeokuta, that the cult members were seen with a male corpse in a tricycle and holding dangerous weapon like cutlasses, cudgels as they head towards Ota area of the state
Oyeyemi said that upon the distress call, the area Commander Sango ota ACP Monday Agbonnika quickly mobilised patrol team to the area where the hoodlums were met on rampage destroying people’s property and stealing from innocent members of the public along Ilo Awela road. He said that the police team engaged and subdued them, and five amongst them were subsequently arrested.
The police spokesperson said that on interrogation, they confessed to the police that they went to party at mushin in Lagos and on their way coming they were engaged in a fight which led to the death of one of the who was overrun by a fast moving vehicle killing him on the spot
He said that the cultists were taking the corpse to the families of their attackers, omo ekun, Lampad and Anko purposely for revenge mission and in the process attacked and damaged one Highlander, stole an infinix phone and a sum of N50,000 from unsuspecting members of the public
“The hoodlums before the arrival of the police have damaged one Highlander jeep with registration number KJA 275GD belonging to one Emmanuel Adekoya, they have also snatched an infinit phone from one Falola olushola and a cash sum of 50,000 from Emmanuel Agbaje,” he said
The corpse which have been recovered from them have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation. The CP also appealed to parents to warn their children from partaking in any act capable of undermining the peace of the state as such act will be met with strict resistance.
