Fear: 3 assassinated in Nkpor
By Phil Okose, Onitsha
At least three people were reportedly killed by gunmen yesterday within the premises of the Nkpor Community Town Hall in the Idemili North local government area of Anambra state. The gunmen are suspected to be assassins, of yet-to-be-ascertained motivation.
Sources told Orient Daily that the suspected assassins, numbering about five, stormed the hall in which a meeting of the youths of the community had, only a few minutes earlier, just ended.
Three of the gun-wielding men were said to have headed straight to their target victims and gunned them down at a close range. They were reported to have died instantly, resulting in stampede as people ran for safety.
Among those reportedly assassinated, all youths, were two from Nkpor and one from the neighbouring Umuoji community.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, told this reporter that, “it is like they packed their bike or car somewhere before coming to kill these youths who were part of the meeting. What happened here this afternoon took everybody by surprise and, as you can see, everybody is in fear. The assassins planned this operation so well that they killed all their targets.”
The source added that “their corpses are still here and nobody is ready to near the scene; even the police have not come” he stated.
The president general of Nkpor community, Chief Innocent Mbagha, could not be reached to react to the killing.
Also, the state police public relations officer, PPRO, Mr. Haruna Mohammed (CSP), when called, did not pick his call.
As at the time of filing this report the corpses of the three victims were still at the scene begging for assistance to the morgue.
