Eaglets regroup for U17 AFCON finals
Nigeria U17s, Golden Eaglets resumed camping in Abuja on Monday in the final phase of preparations for the CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations billed for Morocco next month, Orient Sports reports.
Under coach Fatai Amoo, who is fondly called ‘Arsenal’ by his mirad of fans during his illustrious career days, managed to seal a place in the finals after a harrowing qualification tournament in Lome, Togo, last December during the WAFU tournament.
In Morocco, the Golden Eaglets will be aiming for a ticket for the FIFA U17 World Cup finals, having been crowned World Champions five times in 1985 (in China), 1993 (in Japan), 2007 (in Seoul, Korea), 2013 (in Dubai, UAE, and 2015 (in Chile).
In Lome, Togo, the Amoo charges finished in second position in the U17 West Africa Football Union regional championship.
A total of 12 countries, including Nigeria and hosts, Morocco, will slug things out for the five slots to represent the African continent in the FIFA U17 World Cup finals slated for Peru.
Brazil are the current holders of the FIFA U17 World Cup title, having lifted it in 2019 on home soil, the first time the South American nation hosted it with an emotional 2-1 triumph over ambitious Mexico in the thrilling final.
