Igbos have always been global citizens. The presence of Ndigbo is felt everywhere they reside. Recently Ndigbo in Ghana marked their annual new yam festival in style. The occasion was coordinated by the Igbo group in Ghana and the Ohaneze Ndigbo association.
Igbos all over the world every year celebrate the New yam festival to mark the harvest of new yams. The yam is the ancestral food of the Igbos. The New yam festival is a remarkable socio-cultural event that bridges the gap between the Ghanaian and the Nigerian people.

The President of the Igbo community in Ghana, Chief Michael Ifeanyichukwu Okereke, lauded the existing peace between Ghana and Nigeria adding that both countries have had long-standing diplomatic and cultural relations dating back decades ago.
The Igbo New Yam Festival, he explained, brought together Nigerians and Ghanaians of like minds to fraternize and chart a course for consolidation of the already existing cordial relations between the two countries.
