Son of Abia monarch arrested for defiling 10-year-old girl
Police operatives from at Eastern Ngwa Divisional Police Station in Abia state have arrested a 35-year-old son of a traditional ruler, Prince Alamba Nwaobia, for allegedly defiling a 10-year old girl repeatedly for two years.
Orient Weekend gathered that Mr. Nwaobia was nabbed and taken to police custody following an official complaint of defilement filed by Behind Bars Rights Initiative in Abia state.
According to a statement released by BBI’s Director General, Gwamnishu Emefiena Harrison, the suspect, who is son of a traditional ruler, was apprehended on Tuesday and kept in detention as police continued its investigations.
“The 12-year-old victim was defiled at age 10 by Prince Alamba and continued having unlawful carnal knowledge of her for two years. We met with the victim, who opened up and shared how she was defiled and threatened to remain silent till death.
“On July 25, in company of police officers, we were in the suspect’s house to effect arrest. But his father, who happens to be a traditional ruler with the support of military officers, resisted arrest and chased us out of their compound and threatened to sue us for coming after his son. On the 6th of August, 2019, we track down the suspect and quickly alerted the police.
In similar development, a 40-year-old man has been detained for allegedly defining his nine-year-old step daughter in Igwuruta area of Rivers state. The unidentified man, who was arrested and detained at the Igwuruta Divisional Police Station confessed to the crime but blamed devil for it.
Emefiena Harrison recalled how the suspect was tracked and arrested, “At 11:20am (on August 5), we reported to Nigeria police human right desk of Igwuruta Divisional Police Station. In company of a female police officer, we tracked down the suspect and arrested him. He confessed using his finger to penetrate and also inserted his manhood. The wife, who raised the alarm tried to cover up her husband, but they both later accepted and pleaded we forgive them”, he said; stressing that the victim had been taken to hospital for medical attention, while efforts were in top gear to charge the suspect to court.
