Police safety, anti-cultism campaign set for Anambra communities– POCACOV
As part of the ongoing efforts of the Nigeria Police Force towards enhancing stakeholders/community engagements to deepen the campaign against cultism and other vices, the executive committee members of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) Volunteer Clubs of Anambra state, yesterday, visited and engaged with the executives and members of the Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Anambra state at their ASATU Hall, Government House, Awka.
The goal was to get the stakeholders’ buy-in into the task of fostering community peace-building and robust police relationship with its various publics.
In his opening remarks, the state chairman of the POCACOV Volunteer Club for safer community, Prince Donatus Orjiakor, thanked the forum and informed them on the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to work closely with policing stakeholders to mitigate cultism, violence and other vices to enhance community peace, safety and security. He informed them about POCACOV and its wide range of activities aimed at saving Nigerian youths and children from the claws of cultism and other vices through constant stakeholder engagement, pointing that POCACOV was a community-driven programme of the Nigeria Police Force for advocacy, awareness creation, sensitisation, mentoring and reorientation involving different stakeholders.
He went further to explain to the gathering how POCACOV activities and programme could effectively be implemented in all the communities and towns in Anambra state to enhance peaceful coexistence, safety and security since the police could not be separated from the publics.
Responding on behalf of ASATU, the president, Barrister Akpudo Titus Nnabuike, praised the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in coming out with such community-driven programme on the dangers of cultism, acts of violence and other vices through POCACOV.
He also thanked the state chairman of the POCACOV Volunteer Club, the state coordinator of POCACOV in Anambra state, SP Chukwudi Okorogu, and other members of the POCACOV team for the job they are doing, assuring of the association’s readiness and willingness to support the campaign and ensure its establishment in all the Anambra communities and towns for constant sensitisation and awareness.
