Police arrest 5 for ransom demand from kidnap victim’s father

Police in the Ogun state command have arrested five members of a kidnap syndicate for allegedly abducting an 8-year-old boy, Sadiq Abass, and demanding a sum of 3.5 million as ransom from his family.
The suspects are: Abdul Raman Umar, Falalu Abubakar, Danjuma Bako, Idris Lawal and Fauziya Falalu.
They were arrested on July 9, 2021, following a complaint lodged at the Ogere divisional headquarters by the father of the boy, Riliwan Mohammed.
Mohammed had reported to the police that he left his wife and three children at home at about 12 noon only for him to receive a phone call from a strange number that his son had been abducted.
He reported further that the caller demanded for the sum of 3.5 million naira as ransom of his child from him if he wanted to see the boy alive.
The police public relations officer, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday.
Oyeyemi said that upon the report the Ogere Division police went on investigation which led them to the hideout of the suspects where they were arrested and the victim rescued unhurt.”
Meanwhile, the suspects had been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation, including the suspects’ past activities in order to know how long they had been into kidnapping.
