Police arrest 4 for stealing MTN mast generator in Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested four members of a robbery gang for allegedly stealing MTN mast generator, in Sango Ota, Ado/Odo Ota Local Government Area of the State.

The suspects: Clement Idenyi, 42, Orogade Olalere, 41, Ademola Adekunle, 53, and Tunde Adewale were arrested on Sunday, 6, 2021, following an information received by the DPO Sango Ota Divisional Headquarters that some gang of robbers were planning to break into the MTN power mast.

According to the police the syndicate had finalized plans  steal the ( FG Wilson) generator providing power to the MTN mast, located at No7, Akintunde street  Oando Ijoko Ota. 

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday 

Oyeyemi said that immediately the police got wind of the information the the DPO of Sango Ota Division, CSP Godwin Idehai detailed his men to cordon off and monitor the area.

“At about 5 am, the suspects arrived the scene with an Hiab Truck with which they lifted the generator, unknown to them that they are being monitored. As soon as they lifted the generator into the truck, the policemen swooped on them and apprehended three of the suspects.”

The Police PRO said that on interrogation, it was discovered that  Idenyi who incidentally is the site maintenance engineer was the mastermind of the crime.

He said further investigation revealed that Adewale had already been contacted and had agreed to buy the generator from them if they succeeded in stealing it, while he also provided them with logistics to make the stealing easier, and was equally apprehended.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, has ordered a thorough investigation of the case with the view of arraigning the suspects before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as investigation is concluded.

The CP, therefore, warned criminals to stop testing the resolve of the command to deal with any act of criminality, as doing so will always spell doom for them.
