Two men in military uniform and one other in youth corps uniform were among the 71 suspects nabbed by the Anambra state police in conjunction with other sister agencies during a recent raid of various blackspots and criminal hideouts in the state.
Disclosing this recently, the Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, stated that of the 71 arrested, 46 of them were nabbed by the police command’s anti-cult unit in conjunction with other sister security agencies.
“Out of the seventy-one suspects arrested, 41 are suspected cultists, 5 are suspected fraudsters, including two with military camouflage uniforms and one youth corps member serving in Delta state. The syndicate were arrested by the command’s Special Anti-cult unit in conjunction with UNIZIK Campus Anti cult, following intelligence report,” he stated.
Orient Daily also gathered that the 46 were arrested for abducting and defrauding a certain man identified as Oledimma Macdowal of N1.2 million.
The police spokesman also said that “among the remaining twenty-five suspects, three were child stealing syndicate, while twenty-two others were arrested at various blackspots and criminal hideouts in the state.”
It would be recalled that three weeks ago, there was a launch of anti-crime programme, titled ‘Operation Kpochapu,’ by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state, during which several vehicles and security cameras were donated to security agencies in the state to boost their morale and efficiency.
The PPRO maintained that the operation would continue, while sharing the CP, John Bassey Abang’s goodwill and resolve to ensure that all criminal elements were flushed out of the state.
“The CP further assured the public that the command will not relent in its efforts towards providing safety and security in the state,” Mohammed said.
