Illegal firearm: Police arrest Ex Nigeria Air Force Personnel, others

Ebonyi State Police command has arrested an ex- Nigeria Air Force Personnel identified as Obaji Benjamin, aged 35, for unlawful possession of firearm.
He was arrested along Ebonyi-Enugu boundary on the 9 of August by men of the Safer Highway.
Police Commissioner in the State, CP Aliyu Garba while briefing the Press on the development said that the suspect will be arraigned in court after investigation.
The suspect who hails from Ezza, is a father of four children, he said he resigned from the Air force to look after his aged parents who later died in early 2021.
The CP said, “the relentless efforts of the Command to safeguard the State against proliferation of prohibited firearms yielded positive outcome, at about 1100hrs of 9th August, 2021, the men of Safer Highway Patrol on stop and search duty at Nkalagu/Enugu boundary, intercepted three (3) men on a motorcycle, namely; Obaji Benjamin ‘m’ 35 yrs, Nwankwo Friday ‘m’ 37 yrs, Eze Desmond ‘m’ 35 yrs.
“On searching the suspects, the following arms and ammunition were recovered from the bag in possession of the 1st suspect, One (1) locally made AK-47, Five (5) AK-47 live ammunition, Six (6) expended shells of berretta pistol.
“1st suspect, Obaji Benjamin who claimed to be an ex- Nigeria Air Force Personnel confessed and admitted that the firearms belong to him.
“The suspect further stated that he is a manufacturer of locally made rifles and equally claimed that he inherited the talent from his late father, who was a blacksmith.
“Investigation revealed that the suspect is a deserter from Nigeria Air Force. He will soon be arraigned in court”.
