3 suspected criminals arrested in fake police uniform

Three suspected criminals have been arrested by the police in Ebonyi state with a fake police uniform.
The suspects, Uche Matthew, aged 37, Abraham Abah, 25 and Friday Alo, 30, were reportedly arrested at the Iduma road Effium community Ohaukwu local government area around 7 a.m. on May 22nd, 2021.
The police public relations officer, DSP Loveth Odah, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the suspects were under investigation.
She said one of the suspects said he acquired the mobile police uniform from Enugu to deceive the unsuspecting members of the public and gain access to them.
Odah said that “On 22 May 2021, at about 7 am police operatives at Iduma road in Effium community Ohaukwu local government area, intercepted three suspected armed robbers one fully dressed on police mobile uniform with a desert booth (jungle booth), mobile police cap, belt as well as one locally made pistol was recovered from him with live ammunition.
“When a search was executed on his bag a dagger and some charms were recovered from three of them.
“The suspect confessed to the crime and narrated that he acquired the police mobile uniform from Enugu state and that it was to deceive the public and gain access to everything he wished and that the firearm was for self-defence, adding that he never intended to rob, until people deserted Effium after the crisis.
“He further said that, on 22nd May, they attended the peace talks organised by the stakeholders of the area before the arrest,” she said.
The police PRO said CP Aliyu Garba, the police commissioner Ebonyi state, reiterated his commitment to further curbing crime and criminal activities in the state and appealed for the cooperation of the people in the state to rid criminals off from Ebonyi state.
