A septuagenarian identified, simply, as Okpuite, was Tuesday, banished from Nnewi, Anambra state, for allegedly serially impregnating his 20-year-old daughter and selling one of the twin babies.
This paper gathered that the suspect, a native of Okigwe, Imo state, had lived in Nnewi with his wife, whose name was given as Babiana, for 38 years, and that theycurrently havenine children.
It was gathered that the man took advantage of the mental impairment of his daughter, Ifeoma, and had secretly been having sexual intercourse with her for the past eight years. He ran out of luck when, according toMrs Ebele Nzegwu, a resident of AmiribaOkofia-Otolo, Nnewi, where the man lived with his family,Ifeomamade the act open to the public on Tuesday, December 10. She said her father had been impregnating her and persistently refused to leave her alone.
“At about 10am today, the girl was shouting on top of her voicethat her father had been impregnating her and had sold one of her twin babies. The girl was pregnant three times. In her first pregnancy, she gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl but they claimed she lost the male child. However, today, she is saying that her father actually sold the baby.
“In her second pregnancy, she gave birth to a baby boy, and she is pregnant again. She is saying that her father was responsible for all her pregnancies. That is what she said.
“Mother of the house was not even aware her husband was responsible for their daughter’s pregnancies. She cooks at public occasions, and was always busy. She even left two days ago for the same duty and is not yet aware of this development,” she said.
A youth from the village, NnannaUzoka, who also spoke to this paper, said the community was not aware of the development. He said that when the community heard about it through the daughter, they decided to banish the family from the town.
“We took him to the palace of IgweOrizu where we notified the palace of the abomination that took place. We’ve got the nod of the palace to banish him and we have done that. We packed their belongings into a truck and sent them out of the town. What took place was an abomination which must not be allowed to continue,” he explained.
A source from the palace of IgweOrizu III, who preferred not to be named, confirmed the development to our reporter. The source said the man with his family had been banished from Nnewi, because incest is not tolerated in Nnewi.
