A Non Governmental Organisation, Zimuzo Development Foundation, has kick started the distribution of sanitisers, soaps, buckets and other protective kits to all the traditional rulers in the 177 communities in Anambra State.
Director General of the foundation, Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi, made the disclosure, yesterday, at the palace of the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, where he came with his team to hand over some protective kits to the monarch.
He said the effort was to further cushion the adverse effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, and to keep the traditional rulers healthy and free from the disease.
He said: “The traditional rulers are fathers of our various communities; so, we are distributing protective kits to all of them in the various communities in Anambra to make sure that Coronavirus does not affect them; so that they would live long.
“In the days to come, we shall roll-out another distribution to all the communities in the state through their various presidents general. This time, we are going to distribute 50 sets of the protective kits to each community; so that every community would be prepared for the war against the pandemic.
“This foundation was established seven years ago through the efforts of Dr George Moghalu, current Director General of the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, for the welfare of people in the rural communities.”
Ibeabuchi added that since its inception, the foundation has been assisting indigent patients, granting scholarships to indigent students, securing the release of prison inmates, who were granted bail by the court but would not meet the bail conditions, among other things.
While commending governments at different levels, as well as individual donors for their roles in the fight against Coronavirus in Nigeria and Anambra in particular, he urged more concerted efforts to ensure that the disease did not escalate.
