Conceding three goals Against Abia Warriors Was My Career Worst Ajiboye
By Sab Osuji
Dele Ajiboye has revealed exclusively to Orient Sports that the match day 11 fixture between Abia Warriors and his side, Plateau United in which he shipped in three unreplied goals was the saddest moment of his career.
The 1.8m dark skinned shot stopper who has represented Nigeria in all the levels of the National Teams said even though he conceded four when the CHAN Eagles lost the 2018 final match in Morocco, the defeat at Abia Warriors last season was most painful and heart breaking.
“It is not as if I’ve not conceded three goals in a match before”, starts the former Prime of Osogbo, Wikki Tourists, Warri Wolves, 3SC and Nasarawa United goal tender.
“I remember that we lost the 2018 CHAN in Morocco when the home team beat us 4-0 but I can’t remember conceding three unreplied goals in a single league match. So, the circumstances of that defeat makes it the saddest moment in my career”.
Ajiboye, 30, is the first choice keeper at Plateau United. After helping the U17 Golden Eaglets win the 2007 FIFA World Cup in Korea, Ajiboye was snapped by Spanish Segunda side, Pontvedra.in 2009.
And after two seasons, Ajiboye returned to the domestic scene and has since then had career spells at 3SC Ibadan (2011-2013), Nasarawa United (2014-2015), Warri Wolves (2016) before joining Plateau United.
With United set for a second roll in the CAF flagship inter club championship, CAF Champions League this term, Ajiboye says he wants to use the opportunity to relaunch himself back to the Super Eagles and possibly a return to Europe.
“Playing in the CAF Champions League is a big prospect for every player. For me, I’m working hard to help my club to do well in the continent this season. And I also believe that the CAF Champions League will provide the window for me to get back to Europe.
“Of course, I’m equally looking forward to getting a recall back to the Super Eagles”, Ajiboye said.
