Catholic priest, 3 others feared killed by suspected herdsmen in Benue

Tragedy struck Tuesday as unidentified gunmen shot a Roman Catholic priest and three others at Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue State. The unsuspecting assailants had earlier invaded Agu Centre in Mbatyula, Mberev council ward, set ablaze farmlands and household properties in the community.
A witness disclosed that the gunmen later move to Agu twar area where St Paul’s Catholic Church is sited, where they killed the parish priest, Reverend Fr. Moses Nguban and destroyed the building. Also allegedly killed by the assailants included Tumachihi, Mbangohol, Tsebo and Orlukaa Ulu.
When contacted the council chairman of Katsina-Ala local government, Hon. Alfred Atera has confirmed the killings saying the incident took place at about 8am yesterday. He disclosed that the matter has been reported which security operatives are doing everything humanly possible towards bringing the perpetrators to face the consequences of their actions.
“These constant attacks are becoming a source of worry, just as few days ago a similar incident occurred at Abaji on market day where no fewer than four persons were gun down by an unidentified persons “.
Speaking on the incident, the Benue police command Public relations officer PPRO DSP Sewuese Annene has confirmed that a priest and three others were killed. According to the PPRO additional reinforcement was earlier dispatched to team up with a view to unravel the circumstance , leading to arrest of those killers.
