Buhari removes Adamu, Usman steps in as Acting IGP
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of DIG Usman Alkali Baba as the acting Inspector General of Police.
This was disclosed, Tuesday, by the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dangyadi, during press briefing at State House.
Baba’s appointment, which Dangyadi said it’s with immediate effect, comes at the heels of Adamu Abunakar’s visit to Imo state where unknown gunmen in the early hours of Monday attacked the Nigerian Correctional Services and the police headquarters in Imo State, freeing 1,844 inmates, after which the hoodlums set the facilities ablaze.
Recall that President Buhari had on February 4, 2021, extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for three months.
Adamu had, however, spent two months and three days out of the three-month extension before Baba’s appointment.
The appointment of the acting IGP is subject to the approval of the Council of State meeting expected to be convened soon.
