Benue LG staff sets self-ablaze inside apartment

Mr. Aondona Yaga, a casual worker with Gwer East local government area of Benue state, has reportedly committed suicide inside his apartment at Aliade, the headquarters of the local government in the State.
Orient Daily gathered that the deceased whose entitlements was indebted to by the council amounting to several years terminated his life last Tuesday.
Speaking on the tragedy, the grandmother to the deceased, disclosed that life became miserable for the late council staff who had not been paid his little allowances for close to three years.
According to the woman who spoke under anonymity, the deceased took ill and kept looking for money to treat himself until he decided there was no need to live anymore. “He entered his room and set it on fire and eventually died in the process”, she disclosed.
When contacted information Officer of Gwer Local Government, Mr Chris Avi confirmed the deceased as staff of the local government without further details.
At the time of filing this report, on Thursday his corpse was still abandoned in front of his burnt thatch hut with his grandmother watching helplessly.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Catherine Anene confirmed it. She said the incident took place at about 8 a.m on Tuesday adding that the police is investigating to get to the root of the matter.
