Anambra police hunts gunmen behind attack on APGA members
Anambra state police command says its operatives have intensified manhunt for unknown gunmen behind the bloody attack on political stakeholder meeting with APGA governorship aspirant, Prof Chukwuma Soludo at Isuofia Civic Centre in Aguata local government area of Anambra state on Wednesday.
Orient Weekend gathered that the three security escorts attached to the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor were gunned down at the venue by a yet-to-be-identified armed hoodlums while some civilians sustained various degrees of injuries. The Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, was abducted in the process.
Shortly after receiving news of the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, led a police team to Isuofia for on spot assessment and to reinforce security in the premises and the entire community.
According to a statement issued by state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, one suspect linked to the attack was arrested. Ikenga said: “The police operatives led by the Command CP visited the scene and also visited the former CBN governor to reinforce the security in his house and the community entirely. In his response, he (Soludo) thanked the commissioner and his team for the quick response.
“To this end, the CP while condemning the act, commiserates with the family and friends of the officers who paid the supreme price, and has ordered the immediate launch of a tacit investigation to unravel the mystery behind the incidence as well as bring perpetrators of the barbaric act to book.
“He also called on the good people of Ndi Anambra to join hands in the fight against crime and criminality.”
The police spokesman also disclosed that the arrested suspect was already helping the command in its investigation. He however failed to disclose the identity of the arrested suspect.
