Anambra NCS places N.2m bounty on escapee inmate

The Anambra state command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) has revealed the identity of the inmate freed by suspected gunmen in the state last week.
The gunmen had attacked and killed men of the service at Nanka, as they returned to the Ekwulobia Correctional Centre from the court, taking away the inmate.
A statement by the command’s public relations officer, DSC, Francis Ekezie, gave the name of the freed inmate as Chidi Nwankwo and called on members of the public to help locate him. The NCS has also promised a N200,000 bounty for anyone with useful information that can assist in his rearrest.
The statement read in part, “This is the face of the inmate whose gang members allegedly attacked the Nigerian Correctional Service escort vehicle on its way from the court at Nanka, Anambra state. He was forcefully released after killing the escort NCoS personnel and a police officer.
Chidi Nwankwo was said to be a Pentecostal Christian, 46 years old, male and native of Enemuogo kindred, Umudiabo village, Ndiowuu in Orumba North local government area of Anambra state.
“The inmate was accused of assisting his brother, Anayo Nwankwo who was being tried for arson to escape, leading to his own arrest, before he was freed by the gunmen last week.
