Anambra govt appoints caretaker exco at Onitsha bridgehead market
By Phil Okose, Onitsha
The Anambra state government has appointed a caretaker committee in the troubled Onitsha Bridgehead market. In a two-page release signed by the commissioner for trade trade, market and wealth creation, Uchenna Okafor, he said that the caretaker committee became necessary in view of the court order sacking the market executive led by Chief Sunday Obinze.
The tenure of the caretaker committee, according to Okafor, will start February 20, 2021 and end February 19, 2022, “pending the lifting of ban on elections inside the markets” by the state governor.
Recall that the governor banned conduct of elections within the markets in the state following the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic.
Members of the new committee included, Chief Sunday Obinze, the sacked immediate past president of the market, Sunday Anagboso, Sylvester Muolokwu, Daniel Egbeigwe (Secretary) Emmanuel Obunso, Sunday Okoye and Comrade Mike Umezuruike. Others were, Sunday Onwuasoanya, Nkoli Onyeanusi, Ngozi Yaliba, Benjamin Ekwealor and Vitus Nwanoro.
