Farmers in Anambra East local government area received truckloads of cassava stems and 100 bags of ‘faro 44’ rice seedlings for dry season farming, as part of state government’s support to farmers.
Director, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Edwin Ejike, who led the distribution team, enjoined the farmers to ensure immediate and maximum use of the inputs in order to achieve the desired targets. He said that the governor was seriously committed to agricultural development and to see that hybrid and certified seeds were made available yearly to ensure optimum yields in the state.
Transition committee chairman, Mr Obi Nweke, while receiving the inputs on behalf of Anambra East farmers, thanked the government for its holistic approach to agricultural development and food security in the state.
Head of Department Agriculture, Mrs Christiana Okonkwo, commended the state government for its effort at supporting farmers in the state, saying that more than 50 groups of 10 farmers each had received their inputs already since the distribution commenced on November 30.
One of the beneficiaries, Chief Emmanuel Akorah, from Eziagulu Otu, Aguleri, thanked the state government for support to the farmers, promising that he would make judicious use of the inputs.
