Aina, Ajayi good enough for Eagles games starters – Taribo West
Pastor Taribo West has posited that Semi Ajayi and Ola Aina performances for their respective English Premier League clubs are strong enough to earn them Super Eagles starting roles.
West played for a host of European clubs during his illustrious career with Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold medal triumph with the U23s as a reward.
Ajayi is on the payroll of West Bromwich Albion where he’s scored two goals in the English Premier League this term.
On his part, Aina does his thing with newly-promoted Fulham in the EPL following a loan move from Torino.
During the last rounds of AFCON qualifying matches, Aina and Ajayi were underused, with West now drumming it loud and clear to Super Eagles Manager, Gernot Rohr, that all that should change in the coming games.
“When a player is doing well in his club, playing regularly in a top league, its only normal that you give him chance in the national team”, West posited.
“Ajayi and Aina are clearly some of the best defenders Nigeria has at the moment given their performances for their clubs week in, week out.
“So, it’s only normal they get to play for the senior national team, that’s the standard.
“The last time I watched the Super Eagles, they (Ajayi and Aina) were not in the starting X1 but I that now is the time for Rohr to reward them for their consistency with starting roles in the Super Eagles”, West, a former Inter Milan of Italy defender said.
