The Abia state police command has arrested two suspected undergraduates of the Abia State University Uturu, over alleged possession of firearms, ammunition and robbery.
The state commissioner of police, Ene Okon, who confirmed their arrest, said the suspects were arrested over an attempt to rob a 200-Level nursing science student of the same university in her hostel at Miracles Lodge in Uturu.
The CP added that the suspects were arrested by the surveillance team of Uturu Police Division. The suspects were identified as “Emmanuel Obinna, 24, a 400-level student of Geography and Ngemena Chibuike, a 200 level Linguistics student”.
It was gathered that one locally made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspects.
Okon had warned students to desist from any form of crime that could endanger their future, wondering how youths with bad character could ever become good leaders in the future.
The CP urged members of the community, vigilance groups, neighbourhood watch, hunters and market leaders to partner the state police command in its fight against crime and criminals in the state.
