Abia Warriors still work in progress — coach Udube

Two Nigeria Professional Football clubs, Abia Warriors and Plateau United served out a dose of what should be expected from them when the 2020/2021 domestic season gets underway next month when they played out a scoreless draw in their match day two fixture in the ongoing Gov Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament holding in Aba, Orient Sports reports.
It was the first game that didn’t produce a goal so far in the thrilling tournament.
Abia Warriors coach, Willy Udube, said it was a fair result for both teams, adding that indeed, the Warriors are still work in progress.
“The team is still work in progress”, Udube, who is in his second managerial spell in the club began.
“This is a preseason tournament where you try out some technical and tactical options or variations.
“I think it isn’t a bad one though we didn’t score. But we are getting there gradually”.
A former Iwuanyanwu National midfielder and once had a stint in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, top club, Udube noted there are concerns in their striking department but pointed out that there are plans to address it.
“We have identified that position as area of deficiency now but we are trying to rectify it. We are also trying to see if we can bolster our attacking department with the injection of new legs to add bite to our frontline.
“We played against an NPFL side that is technically and tactically disciplined. When you meet such a team, you can call it ‘survival of the fittest’ and remember too, that they (Plateau Utd) are the current NPFL champions and one of the two teams representing Nigeria in the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League”, Udube submitted as his team fired blanks despite winning their opening fixture 3-0.
