Abia govt says army chief, opposition arming thugs

The Abia state government has raised alarm about the invasion of Aba by armed persons reportedly hired by a leading opposition party in the state in the run up to the March 27, 2021 Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency election.
In a press release by the state’s commissioner for information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu on Wednesday, a retired army general who only recently joined the opposition party was accused of being the one behind the arms being used by the hoodlums and the fake army unforms procured for them against the election.
However, the state government urged citizens and visitors to Aba in particular and Abia in general to go about their normal businesses as measures have been put in place to arrest the situation.
