2,300 rainstorm victims get relief fund

About 2300 victims of the last rainstorm began to receive relief packages from the Kwara state government on Wednesday at the premises of the Kwara Civil Service Commission.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had earlier set up a committee to look into ways of alleviating the plight of the victims for which the disbursement commenced last Wednesday, to last till Monday next week.
Addressing journalists before the commencement of the disbursement, the chairman of the implementation committee on Ilorin Rainstorm Disasters, Hajia Habibat Yusuf, explained that that Governor AbdulRazaq had mandated the payment of varying sums of money to the victims. Depending on assessment, they would receive N25,000, N50,000 and N100,000 per victim.
Speaking with journalists, beneficiaries Saadu Abdulfatai, Salman Adams, Arojo Akeem and Solihu Afeez Kayode all unanimously expressed satisfaction at the gesture of government, saying they had given up on the promises earlier made to them about assistance. They expressed surprise and happiness at the development.
Banks were on ground to administer the disbursement to beneficiaries who spanned the various categories while members of the implementation committee were Prof. Badmus O Yusuf, Mrs Bilqees M. Oladimeji, Gidado Alakawa, Stephen A. Awoyale, Bola Olojoku, Prof. Hamzat Abdulraheem and Mrs Adaran Motunrayo who serves as the secretary were around to screen and confirm beneficiaries with their telephone numbers.
